about the artist
The paintings and oil pastels of nationally recognized artist Marianne Mitchell speak of abstraction in harmony. They capture the essence of an emotional and physical sense of place inspired by nature and architecture. Contradiction and compliment are held in visual poetic balance through light and dark values, transparent and opaque color, and surface texture. Through luminous layers of color woven together in all of her work, Marianne gives the gift of resonant beauty to the viewer.
Marianne has shown widely, through group and solo exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles and Philadelphia. Her work is featured in private and corporate collections both nationally and internationally.
MiND TV
I am on MiND TV! It's a short documentary by Judy Topkis, a wonderful artist who is interested in documenting the artistic thought process.

“Mitchell’s lush acrylics on panel and oil pastels on paper admit us to a world of color and shapes that bear no relevance to familiar objects but seem to encompass the world. I’ve never seen such sensuous acrylic paintings, with layers of colors interacting and almost pleading with you to enter...” - Anne R. Fabbri, The Broad Street Review
